Hand-carved and handcrafted wood Nativities have a long history in the South Tyrol region of Italy, where both German and Italian are spoken. Costa Art has a wide selection of finely-crafted Nativity scenes and hand-carved and hand-painted Nativity figures. Nativity Scenes
Costa Nativity wood figures, made from maple, are hand-carved and hand-painted in St. Ulrich in the Gröden Valley in the South Tyrol region of Italy, which has a 400-year tradition of woodcarving. These unique figures, handcrafted from solid wood, are made by a small, family-run company in the Erzgebirge. Björn Köhler takes great pride in his designs that combine traditional workmanship with modern style fundamentals. He has won several awards for his designs, including the "Tradition & Form" award from the Verband Erzgebirgischer Kunsthandwerker und Spielzeughersteller. Günter Reichel, after 34 years of handcrafting delightful guardian
angel collectibles and stunning Nativities, closed on June 1, 2023. You can read the final
message from Günter Reichel here. We do have some Reichel Nativity figures left in stock, and they
